How to Run a Grid Bot

A Grid Bot automates buying low and selling high within a specified price range. As the price moves between defined grid levels, the bot automatically executes limit orders to capture profit from price fluctuations.

Step 1: Open the Grid Bot Setup

  1. Log in to your Thalex account.
  2. Navigate to Bots from the top header menu.
  3. Under "Create Bot", click "Grid Bot".

Step 2: Set Core Grid Parameters

Configure the grid strategy according to your target range and order sizes:

  • Instrument: Select the asset contract you want to trade (e.g., BTC-PERPETUAL or ETH-PERPETUAL).
  • Price Range (Upper & Lower): Specify the price boundaries. The bot will only place orders within this envelope.
  • Number of Levels: Set how many grid intervals to create within the range. The range will be evenly subdivided into buy and sell limit orders.
  • Max Total Quoted Quantity: Define the maximum total size/exposure allocated across all grid levels.
  • End Time: Select the date and time when the bot will automatically deactivate.

Step 3: Configure Exit Safeguards (Optional)

To limit downside risk or manage trend breakouts, expand Advanced Settings:

  • Upside Exit Price: If the market breaks above this price, the bot stops running and exits/manages the active position.
  • Downside Exit Price: If the market drops below this price, the bot stops running and closes the position to prevent further losses.

Step 4: Launch the Bot

  1. Verify your configuration on the chart preview, which visually maps out your grid levels and exit bounds.
  2. Click "Start Bot".
  3. A Grid Bot Started banner will confirm that the bot is live.

  2. Click View Bots or click your active grid bot to check live metrics, including Realized PnL, Unrealized PnL, and Total PnL.
  3. To cancel open orders and terminate the strategy at any time, click "Stop".

Important Considerations

Grid bots rely on your account's position data for execution decisions. Avoid manually trading the same instrument while a Grid Bot is running to prevent conflicting order behavior.
